A FINE DOCUMENTARY

Legends: The Chieftains | BBC Four Documentary [59mins]

Adelaide’s Irish Hall has been a venue for bush dancing since 1976, when the Celtic Music Club of South Australia began its monthly dances there. In 1979 the Folk Federation of South Australia’s monthly dances relocated there, ultimately merging with the Celtic Music Club dances in 1993. The rise in popularity of Irish music across the world owes much to The Chieftains, formed in 1962. This fine 2008 documentary tells their story well and was uploaded to YouTube in February 2021. The band’s founder, Paddy Moloney, died on 12 October 2021 aged 83.
